Bank Holiday Diary - 5 go racing at Donington!
Hello Robert, Some information about the racing at Donington Park last
Bank Holiday Monday.
It was a cold damp start for the first qualifying session. Just before the cars went onto
the track there was a downpour which made the tyre choice easy as the track was officially
wet. 5 Welsh drivers, namely Terry Brown, Peter Williams, Jeff Davies, Richard Rozhon and
Huw Williams had travelled to Donington Park as part of the Dunlop supersports
championship. Peter has been racing in this series all season. At the end of the first
session Terry was 6th fastest closely followed by Peter. Jeff was 11th with Richard 13th
and Huw 15th.
The boys had a second qualifying session as there were two races and this time the track
was nice and dry and very warm. This time however terry was 10th fastest closely followed
in 11th by Jeff and 12th by peter and Richard 13th with Huw 16th.
So to the races themselves which were both held in glorious sunshine. The racing was fast
and furious. Unfortunately Terry pulled off after 11 laps with a gearbox problem which
would also mean he would miss the 2nd race.Huw also retired after 5 laps with a mechanical
problem and meant he would sit out the second race also. At the end of the fifteen lap
race Jeff came home in 10th position closely followed by Peter with
Richard one lap down. The only consolation for Terry was that he had the fastest lap on
lap 9.

The second race was similar to the first with a cracking pace.
Jeff once again came home in 10th place with Peter close behind again and Richard in hot
pursuit of them both in 12th. Unfortunately the three boys were all one lap adrift of the
leaders who had set some very fast laps ahead. Peter did have one hairy moment where he
went onto the grass and spun through 360 degrees before rejoining the race track intact.

The next round of the championship, which is also the final round, is at Silverstone on
18th September.
Many thanks.
Kind regards Derek john Binsted
