WRDA member Hywel Lloyd made a big impression in the Prestigious F3 Masters race in front of a massive crowd at Zandvoort in Holland, after another superb drive from a lowly grid position. Lloyd, driving the CF Racing with Manor Motorsport Dallara with a Mercedes engine, had a disappointing practice, qualifying down in 21st place for the race, but a change in the weather brought about a change in fortune. Although he and his team could not get on the pace in the dry qualifying, with the track in a damp condition for Sundays race, Lloyd passed car after car on his way to 9th , to remind everybody of his latent talent. Later he said. "The start was very confusing. The normal practice when conditions change between Qualifying and the race is to do two laps behind the safety car. The first car in the bunch I was in, clearly thought that was so, and they allowed a gap to grow between us and the guys on the first few rows. The organisers had other ideas and started the race after only 1 lap! That meant that the front part of the grid had an even bigger advantage from the off" Even so Lloyds progress put him in sight of leaders and clearly if his team can resolve their qualifying issues and get him within the top 10 at the start, a big result may not be far away.

The 2010 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship restarts on the 17th July at Rockinham near Corby, but the series goes Continental again for a weekends racing at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium at the end of July, Lloyd has featured well at both tracks, and will be looking to continue with his run of good result. The series returns to British tracks for the final races in the season.

The 2010 Cooper Tires British F3 Championship is sponsored by US tyre manufacturer Cooper Tires and is further supported by Sunoco Racing Fuels, Anglo American Oil Company and Mirror.co.uk

The format of races in the 2010 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship is one Qualifying session and three races per weekend. Day one will have one 30 minute race while day two will see a 20 minute sprint and a 40 minute feature race

In the 30 minute qualifying session a drivers’ second-fastest lap time will give their grid positions for race one. The winner of that race will then draw a number between six and 10. If they pick seven, they start seventh, with the second-placed driver sixth and the seventh-placed driver on pole position for the sprint race. This is designed to give drivers all the way down the grid something to fight for in race one. Grid positions for the final race are determined by drivers’ fastest lap in qualifying.

Points are scored for the Top 10 places in each class (20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1) with a bonus point for the fastest lap in each class. The 20 minute sprint race will score half points, with two bonus points for the fastest laps.

The Mirror.co.uk British F3 Challenge Cup will once again be awarded to the top British driver
